The West Coast Eagles’ support of community and charity organisations has seen the proud addition of the Cancer Council WA to that list.

With cancer one of the most prevalent diseases and causes of death in Australia, the club felt an obligation to formalise a partnership to fight it.

And the association with the Cancer Council WA took a major step on February 16, for Me No Hair Day, when defender Kasey Green and young draftees Mitch Morton and Mark LeCras wasted no time getting their heads shaved for the cause.

Students at John Septimus Roe Community School watched the locks drop in a race to see which player could have his head shaved first.

The school, who won the players’ visit as part of the Me No Hair Day fundraising campaign, had accrued $18,500 with all monies going towards the fight against cancer.

West Coast Eagles assistant coach Rob Wiley, who has been touched by cancer, was welcomed as guest speaker.

The partnership with the Cancer Council has seen the club pledge to raise funds for the cause throughout 2005, with its involvement to also include support of key events including Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, Daffodil Day and Relay for Life.
