At the beginning of every year, the West Coast Eagles descend on a remote town in Western Australia to give back to the community and encourage participation in footy at a grass roots level.
Since the program began the team has travelled to Port Hedland, Karratha, Albany, Kalgoorlie, Busselton, Esperance, Geraldton, Narrogin, Mandurah, Carnarvon, Exmouth and Broome.
AFL Community Camps help to improve the accessibility of the West Coast Eagles all over the state and provide an opportunity for West Coast Eagles fans to get up close and personal to their favourite football stars.
Community Camps often involve school visits, football clinics, local training sessions, panel nights, and various other community activities.
The locals always appreciate the chance to gain an insight into the workings of a professional football club and warmly welcome the players to their towns.
Senior coach John Worsfold says the West Coast Eagles always make the most of the opportunity to do something for the community.
"This is a time when the players can see the impact they have on communities and on people, so that’s a part they really enjoy. With the kids in the schools and the people in the aged hostels, that sort of thing, that’s the part they really love, just to see the smiles that they put on people’s faces."
In 2011, the West Coast Eagles headed up to Broome for the annual pre-season Community Camp and the boys thoroughly enjoyed the trip.
