Eagles Cup is Western Australia’s premier primary inter-school competition for year five to seven students. The competition uses special modified rules to allow for maximum participation, enjoyment and skill development, where the emphasis is on playing for fun and demonstrating sportsmanship.
It involves schools combining with other schools of similar size and in close proximity to each other to conduct interschool matches. These groups then become divisions within each of the metropolitan WAFL districts and compete against each other on a weekly basis in a round-robin competition.
Eagles Cup becomes more popular every year with more than 12,000 primary school students competing. This year, an astounding 524 primary schools participated in the competition from all parts of Western Australia, from the Kimberleys to the Great Southern to the Goldfields.
Participating schools are provided with the necessary equipment and support materials to deliver the program and without the help of co-sponsors The West Australian and BHP Billiton Iron Ore, the program would not be possible. The West Coast Eagles congratulate these sponsors for their continuous efforts in supporting grass roots football development through Eagles Cup.
The winning divisions within each WAFL region are rewarded for their success with an Eagles Cup Trophy. This prestigious award is presented to the school by a West Coast Eagles player during a school assembly.
