The lead up to Christmas is an intense time of year for footballers. After a well-deserved month off, the West Coast Eagles are getting in to the thick of their pre-season training, getting their strength up, improving their fitness and spending the majority of their time sweltering in Perth’s December heat that is only getting warmer and warmer every day.

But as tiresome and exhausting as it can be, the Eagles have still made sure that they spend as much time doing good off the field as they do on the field, visiting kids at Princess Margaret Hospital yesterday for their annual Christmas visit.

Mark Nicoski, Matt Rosa, Mark LeCras, Josh Hill, Ashton Hams and new recruit Sharrod Wellingham headed to PMH armed with Christmas gifts and team posters to put smiles on the faces of sick and injured kids this festive season.

Hill, who spent his first season with West Coast as a permanent fixture in the forward line playing 22 games and kicking 36 goals, said that the PMH visit was something the players had been looking forward to.

“It’s a good thing that we do, and I know that we as players look forward to it,” he said.

“It’s a nice afternoon for us to come down here and visit the kids, have photos, give them presents, sign some autographs.

“We’ve even been showing a few of them some footy tips, we’ve got a handball station set up here as well. There’s definitely some talent here I think.”
