The West Coast Eagles is proud to join the Central Institute of Technology and the West Australian Football Commission in offering students the chance to combine their academic study with their passion for AFL.

Students undertaking courses in Sport Development are released from their studies twice a week to gain valuable work experience while they gain an industry recognised qualification.

It allows students hone their practical sporting skills and receive coaching from sporting professionals, as well as develop the knowledge to coordinate, coach and officiate in a wide range of sports.

Rhys Holdman, who is studying at Central’s Leederville campus, says it’s a great way to diversify his studies.

“I am pretty lucky to be playing football and gaining a qualification at the same time. It beats sitting in the classroom all day,” he said.

“We have been able to work with people who are currently involved with footy at the highest level. I have enjoyed being outdoors and having the opportunity to further develop my skills and knowledge of the game”.

West Coast Eagles schools & community program co-ordinator, Kim Hannah, said the partnership was helping all parties.

“This is a great opportunity for students to take their passion for sport to another level and gain a recognised qualification,” he said.
