Retiring greats Shannon Hurn and Luke Shuey will remain sidelined from Saturday night’s RAC Derby, but Jamaine Jones is set for action this weekend for the first time since round 10.

Shuey, who on Tuesday followed Hurn by announcing this season would be his last, is not ready to resume from a hamstring setback and will miss a third-straight match.

The skipper hopes to feature in the last two games, while Hurn is unlikely to play before a potential farewell game against Adelaide in round 24 at Optus Stadium due to Achilles soreness.

“Luke has continued to build through his rehabilitation from his most recent hamstring injury but not feeling confident for this week,” Head of Health Mark Finucane told westcoasteagles.com.au.

“He has declared that and aiming for the last two games of the season.

“Shannon developed some Achilles awareness after the North Melbourne game. He’s just got a couple of weeks to let that calm down and then rebuild.

“We’re aiming to get him back out there for a farewell game against Adelaide.”

Jones has not featured since a nasty ankle injury suffered against Hawthorn in Tasmania, but has made it back before the end of the campaign.

Prolific midfielder Dom Sheed (foot), rugged onballer Connor West (knee) and Coby Burgiel (hamstring) are also still hopeful of appearing before season’s end.

“Jamaine has worked his way through his rehab after his ankle surgery and has put his hand up and just needs to train this week to be available,” Finucane said.

“Dom has had a foot complaint after the North Melbourne game which we are allowing to calm down and reassessing each week.

“We’ll monitor that over the course of this week and if there is a chance he can get up for the last game or two we’ll work through that late this week and early next week.

“Coby is not far off integrating in with the group. He will join some of the group training later this week, so continues to build.

“Connor continues to progress really well after his knee surgery and he’s not far off joining in some of the lower-intensity drills with the group.”

Zane Trew should also return this round after a groin injury kept him out of action last weekend.

“We took a no-risk approach with Zane after having some adductor tightness last week,” Finucane said.

“Although he functioned well last week he’s completely ready to go this week.”
