Star forward Liam Ryan will undergo scans on his hamstring after limping from the track at Mineral Resources Park on Monday.
The dynamic goalkicker and speedy half-back Coby Burgiel (hamstring tightness) both left training early and will be assessed.
Ryan and Burgiel’s concerns were to the opposite legs they underwent surgery on last year.
“I think we started with 43 on the track and we lost those guys reasonably early in training so we’ll have to wait on scans, but Liam looks definitely like he’s done something and Burgiel might be on the minor side,” senior coach Adam Simpson said.
While the vast majority of the Eagles squad was out on the track, midfielders Dom Sheed and Elijah Hewett were absent due to respective foot issues, while defender Josh Rotham is dealing with groin tightness.
Sheed is out of the moon boot he was sporting pre-Christmas and aiming to be available for round one, while Hewett will build into main training in coming weeks after overcoming soreness.
“Dom is not far off running. Elijah had blisters over the weekend, but he’s progressing well,” Simpson said.
“He had a bit of an issue so it’s not holding him back too much but he’s missed a few weeks now, so that will be a longer process.”
Young bull Reuben Ginbey is set to be integrated into main training soon after being eased off before Christmas.
The Emerging Talent award winner had completed a heavy workload to that point, since he returned from a season-ending hamstring injury he suffered in round 18 against Richmond.
“Reuben, I think he will be integrated into training next week or end of this week, so he looks like he’s good to go,” Simpson said.
“He did so much coming back from his hamstring last year, I don’t think he had a break.
“We’ve just got to be careful with Reubs because he goes so hard and it won’t take him long to get going again.”
