Experienced Eagle Elliot Yeo will test his fitness at training this week as he pushes to be available for the Gather Round clash against Geelong on Sunday.
Yeo hurt his adductor in the round three win over Port Adelaide and was sidelined for the defeat against Sydney.
“Elliot has given himself every chance to be available this week,” High Performance Manager Phil Merriman said.
“We will just make sure we are comfortable with him at training this week.”
Versatile midfielder Jack Hutchinson is edging closer to playing football for the first time since ankle surgery late last year, while recruit Milan Murdock is also nearing availability following a hamstring issue.
“Jack has progressed incredibly well and is now in full training,” Merriman said.
“Providing he completes the next phase, Jack is expected to be available next week on managed minutes.
“Milan has ticked every box so far and all going to plan will be available for selection in round six for the derby against Fremantle.”
Fred Rodriguez is set to rejoin the main training group later this week as he progresses from a foot injury, with a two‑week build planned to help him settle back into full training.
Fellow draftee Sam Allen has entered a performance‑focused training block as he continues his recovery from a knee injury, with an eight-week timeline for return.
“Sam is pushing himself physically to ensure he’s ready to perform when the time comes,” Merriman said.
Unfortunately, forward Tyler Brockman will take a cautious approach after developing another infection following knee surgery, with the club set to manage his loads over the next fortnight.
Key defender Harry Edwards remains under concussion protocols as he continues his rehabilitation, with no set return date at this stage.
“Harry is progressing well and continuing to move through the protocols,” Merriman said.
Recruit Brandon Starcevich remains focused on building strength and running capacity as he works through his calf rehabilitation, with an expected five‑to‑seven‑week timeline.
Second-year Eagle Jacob Newton will unfortunately miss the rest of the season after requiring navicular surgery.
“This will mean he will have a long-term reconditioning program, and we won’t see him take the field again this year,” Merriman said.
