The Milano Eagles defeated the Roma Blues on their home ground for the first time ever, conquering the top of the ladder, and the title of minor premiers 2012.

Due to this result, the Milano Eagles will have the honour of hosting the 2012 AFL Italia Grand Final on July 14.

The home team had lost on the Capitolina Rugby Pitch just once in their history, (last year’s grand final) and had a good start, winning contested possession and clearances, flying to a 21 point advantage and holding the lead until half-time with a score of 33 to 16.

At the main break, the Eagles’ coach Armando Colombo was upset and asked strongly for his boys to play according to their game plan, with switching kicks and solid marks on lead.

In the second half, the Eagles were solid in defence, winning the ball, and allowing the Blues just seven points for the term.

The Eagles grabbed the lead midway through the term and got home with three unanswered goals. The final score was 59 to 40.

Another important celebration for the Milano side was the two goals by their skipper, Bruno Nugnes, making him the winner of 2012 AFL Italia’s goal-kicking table.
