Defender Will Schofield has re-signed with the club for a further three years.
I can’t imagine playing anywhere else and everyone at the club is pretty excited about the future. I am keen to be a part of the next West Coast team that achieves the ultimate success and we all believe that is achievable in the near future.
Rebounding West Coast Eagles defender Will Schofield has today signed a three-year contract extension with the club.
Schofield, who has become an important element in the team structure in the past couple of years, will now remain with the Eagles until at least the end of the 2016 season.
After making his debut in 2007, Schofield played 15 games to the end of 2009, but then began to cement his place in the defensive half and has played 63 of 71 games in the past three years.
His capacity to play on opponents of varying sizes and his exciting dashes out of defence have enthralled West Coast fans in that time.
Schofield, 24, said he was delighted to extend his time at the club.
“It’s pretty exciting to extend my contract,” Schofield said. “I have been here for six years already, so Perth and the West Coast Eagles have been a big part of my life.
“Everyone is aware I had a tough year personally in 2012 and the easy decision would have been to go home to family and friends. The club was great to me at that time and I really appreciated the support.
“But I can’t imagine playing anywhere else and everyone at the club is pretty excited about the future. I am keen to be a part of the next West Coast team that achieves the ultimate success and we all believe that is achievable in the near future.”
List and contracts manager Craig Vozzo said re-signing Schofield was a priority and having done so at this stage of the year was satisfying.
“We see Will as an important player in our future plans – both in the immediate and long term,” Vozzo said.
“He has developed into a strong rebounding defensive player who has already had a strong impact and we expect him to be even more influential in the coming years.”
