Emerging forward Jeremy McGovern continued his impressive lead-up form with another eye-catching performance for Claremont when the WAFL kicked off on Saturday.

McGovern, in his third season on the rookie list, is showing the benefits of an elite preparation and had 19 possessions, took nine marks and finished off his work with four goals.

With a place on the senior list available, following Mark Nicoski’s return to the long term injury list, McGovern is certainly giving the match committee something to ponder after several strong performances as a forward and part time ruckman.

Aside from McGovern, ultra-consistent East Fremantle pair Mitch Brown and Bradd Dalziell pushed their names in front of the match committee with outstanding performances.

Brown was dominant in the back half while Dalziell had 31 possessions in another classy display, ensuring he will be mentioned in despatches at selection this week as the club prepares for the opening of the AFL season against Fremantle.

Fellow defender Jacob Brennan had his hands full with likely Swan Districts forward Tim Gaeppen, but also worked hard to be a rebounding option for his team.

Small forward Murray Newman showed his class with four goals for Swan Districts in his first match of this campaign after being unavailable earlier as he strived to reach key benchmarks.

Perth forward Fraser McInnes made a good start to his season with 13 possessions and five marks while 2012 draftee Brant Colledge collected 13 possessions in three quarters in the reserves and continues to make good progress.

Blayne Wilson and Cale Morton, who stepped out for East Perth for the first time, produced worthwhile contributions in a team that faded badly after half-time.

Wilson was consistent in the defensive half and had 22 possessions and six marks, while Morton  had 13 disposals.
