Small forwards Ashton Hams and Brad Dick put their names front and square before the match committee with eye-catching WAFL performances at the weekend.

Hams kicked six goals for South Fremantle against Peel, while Dick kicked four for East Fremantle against West Perth as they strive for AFL opportunities late in the season.

Hams was clearly best on ground for the Bulldogs, accumulating 31 possessions and taking four marks, two of them quality contested grabs deep in attack. Those marks were part of a reaction to being tagged through the midfield after a brilliant start to the game.

He was pushed deep forward in the second term and kicked three goals for the term. To be available this week, however, Hams will need to beat a striking charge when he fronts the WAFL tribunal.

Dick was lively and an important factor in the Sharks upset win over West Perth at Arena Joondalup, with his team dominating the second half when they scored 13 goals to two on the way to an important 73-point win.

Always dangerous, Dick kicked 4.3 from 15 disposals and five marks.

Those performances headlined the efforts from West Coast players in the second tier competition, but a handful of teammates also excelled.

The East Perth quartet of Matt Rosa, Adam Selwood, Blayne Wilson and Cale Morton, was simply outstanding and were at the forefront of a strong and disciplined 48-point win over Perth.

Rosa and Morton dominated on the wings, with Rosa a virtual unanimous choice as best afield. He had 34 touches, nine marks and laid six tackles in a terrific all-round effort which was even more meritorious considering his disposal efficiency was around 90 percent.

Morton’s output was only slightly less damaging with 32 possessions and 11 marks as they enabled East Perth to enjoy midfield domination. Morton finished off his game with two goals.

Wilson was also efficient in defence (26 possessions, six marks), while Selwood had 27 touches, five marks and four tackles in a solid performance, where his leadership attributes were also on display.

In addition to the influence of Dick on the East Fremantle victory, defender Jacob Brennan was also in the thick of the action.

He had 27 possessions, took five marks and laid four tackles while for West Perth, Mark Hutchings was one of his team’s stronger four-quarter players, despite the second half demolition, picking up 26 disposals and punctuating his work with two goals.

Jamie Bennell showed another string to his bow, spending periods in the second half through the midfield. After earlier closing down Claremont sharp shooter Ian Richardson, he enjoyed the freedom higher up the ground and had 13 possessions and six marks.

Perth pair Fraser McInnes and Simon Tunbridge were handy in the Demons loss to East Perth, with McInnes again forced to spend big chunks of the game in the ruck. The young forward had 15 possessions and took five marks while Tunbridge started strongly with two goals in the opening term and completed his day with 17 possessions and five marks.
