WEST Coast's Adam Carter is excited about the prospect of moving WAFL clubs in 2014 as a new alignment comes in to full effect, despite being forced to leave South Fremantle.

In October 2012, both West Coast and Fremantle signed up to alignment agreements with established WAFL clubs East Perth and Peel Thunder, after their proposals for stand-alone reserves teams were knocked back.

Under the agreement all Eagles-listed players will play with East Perth in the WAFL and Fremantle players will play with Peel.

Previously, AFL-listed players were spread across all nine WAFL clubs. In 2013, only new recruits and some rookies were aligned to East Perth and Peel while senior-listed players remained at their original WAFL clubs.

West Coast's Mark Hutchings won a best and fairest with West Perth in 2012 and was best afield in the Falcons' premiership win over East Perth in the 2013 WAFL Grand Final, but will now play for the Royals in the WAFL in 2014.

Carter, who has played juniors, colts, reserves and league football for South Fremantle, is upbeat about the prospect of playing for East Perth.

"I'm actually really excited about it," Carter said.

"I think it will be a really good thing for the West Coast Eagles. Obviously it's going to make it a lot easier transition from the WAFL to the AFL.

"We'll play a similar sort of game style in the WAFL to what we will in the AFL so it'll make it a lot easier for the younger players to develop and I'm really excited about that."

The 19-year-old small defender played five matches in his debut season under John Worsfold but is adjusting to life under a new regime as the winds of change have swept through the Eagles since season's end.

"It's been a big change this year," Carter said.

"There's not too many familiar faces around the place apart from the players."

Justin Longmuir is the only coach left from last year's match committee with new senior coach Adam Simpson bringing in a whole new team including three new development coaches.

Carter says his first encounter with Simpson was positive.

"I think he'll fit in really nicely. He's going to change a few things around the club which is good,” Carter said.

"He's got a good support staff around him that he's brought along so I'm really looking forward to what he's going to bring.

"I think the players are really excited about it."

Carter anticipates spending a lot of time with new development coach Daniel Pratt.

"I've caught up with him a couple of times so far and we've discussed a bit about last year and bit about the year going forward so that's pretty exciting and I think he'll be really good for me," Carter said.
