The West Coast Eagles added red to their usual blue and gold colours on Sunday at the third annual Sunshine Beach Run for SIDS and Kids WA.

A number of West Coast Eagles players and coaches, led by young dads Matt Priddis and Mark LeCras, took to the beach in support of the event, which raises funds for those who have been affected by Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

The run was formed in 2012 by West Coast Eagles physiotherapist Chris Perkin, who tragically lost his unborn baby Jake and wife Cindy in 2009.

Over 1,000 participants took to the sand last Sunday, with the event raising over $160,000 for SIDS and Kids WA.

Along with the West Coast Eagles players and staff, other sports stars to take part included Perth Wildcats big man Matty Knight, along with players from the West Coast Fever and the Hockeyroos.

Perkin said the event again was terrific success and a great morning at the beach.

“It’s a great cause SIDS and Kids, fun on the beach, Sunday morning, you can’t really ask for much more than that,” Perkin said.

“The West Coast Eagles are down here showing their faces and the kids love that.

“Nothing better than seeing their stars, and coming down and enjoying a great morning on the beach for a great charity.”

Eagles midfielder Matt Priddis, holding his young daughter Nala, says it was a great event to be a part of.

“It’s a super event to take part in, it’s an issue that affects everyone somehow,”Priddis said.

“To see so many people down here supporting Tex and supporting the great cause is really inspiring, and SIDS and Kids benefits greatly from the money raised.

“Tex is a great bloke, a tireless worker and a terrific dad, we couldn’t be more happy to give our support to him, because it’s an issue he obviously feels so strongly about, and so do we.

“To get over $160,000 is absolutely amazing, so a massive thank you to everyone that dug into their pockets to help out.”
