West Coast Eagles ruckman Callum Sinclair visited Halidon Primary School last week, to promote Bullying, No Way.

Halidon have registered for the National Day Against Bullying, and were keen to reinforce the importance of the message with their students.

In an assembly that introduced us to the richness of Chinese culture, the student leadership group reinforced the values that the school encourages students to follow. Around the theme of Respect, students showed that hurtful and ultimately, bullying behaviour can leave a student in a sad and vulnerable state.

Callum Sinclair then spoke about similar values being a part of the West Coast Eagles’ culture – everyone is respected, everyone has the right to act and speak safely and that diversity is enjoyed and embraced.

He likened Halidon PS to a larger version of the West Coast Eagles where everyone looked after their team (school) mates and everyone was welcome. Callum, with help from Schools and Community Program Coordinator Kim Hannah, then set up a role pay to show how one person with courage enough to say no to bullying can make all the difference.

Sinclair said it was a great day at Halidon, but more importantly a great chance to spread the word against bullying.

“Bullying has no place anywhere,” Sinclair said.

“To come to the school here and see the kids so receptive of the message is really promising.

“We had a great time, and we would also like to thank Mr Schmidt for inviting us to be part of such a significant day and having the whole event run so smoothly.”
