West Coast Eagles Senior Physiotherapist Paul Tucker says defender Shannon Hurn will wear a brace on his injured knee, but will hopefully be into his rehabilitation next week.

Speaking to Eagle Eye TV for this week’s HBF Health Medical Update, Tucker suggested Hurn’s rehab would begin as soon as possible.

“Shannon had a medial ligament injury to his right knee, and the MRI that he had today confirmed that it was a ‘grade two’ injury, which means for Shannon that he’ll be out for probably four-to-six weeks,” Tucker said.

“Shannon will spend a couple of weeks in a brace, and once he’s able to walk pain-free we’ll look at running him on our AlterG machine probably toward the end of next week.

“From there it depends very much on how he pulls up as to how far he progresses.”

Tucker also delivered positive news on the progress of developing players Mark Hutchings and Simon Tunbridge, who are both a big chance of making a return to footy this weekend.

Hutchings has battled a lower back injury over the last few weeks, while Tunbridge was left with a broken nose from a heavy clash in the opening round of the WAFL season against Peel Thunder.

“Hutch is a lot better this week, he trained fully last week with his back complaint, ticked that off and hopefully this week we’ll get through another week’s worth of training and be right to go on Friday night,” he said.

“Tunners, a very similar boat, he’s recovering from a broken nose, and we would expect Simon to train Tuesday and Thursday and also be available to play.”
