Key forward Callum Sinclair made a strong claim for a recall to senior football with a best-on-ground display for East Perth in the Royals’ stunning 80-point victory over Perth on Saturday.

The Royals skipped to the top of the WAFL ladder on the back of that victory – and the loss by Swan Districts to Subiaco.

East Perth dominated from the outset against Perth and virtually sealed the result with a 10-goal second term, where Sinclair was in the centre of the action.

He finished the game with 6.0 from a 21-possession, 13-mark performance that has clearly put him back in the selection frame, while another developing key forward/ruckman Scott Lycett continues to press for elevation.

Lycett was prominent with 17 possessions, six marks and two goals, while combining with Sinclair and former West Coast, Melbourne and Hawthorn big man Paul Johnson to control the ruck and ensure a steady supply to the fleet of running players.

Among those to capitalise were rookie midfielders Dom Sheed (25 touches) and Will Maginness (23 possessions), hard-edged utility player Pat McGinnity (20 touches and five marks) and forward Ash Smith, who had 21 disposals and three goals.

Josh Hill had 11 possessions and four marks, finishing his work off with one goal and Fraser McInnes had 15 touches, five marks and a goal while the Eagles in defence were also sharp. With East Perth going inside the attacking 50 metre arc 60 times to 32, the defence did not have a lot to do but they were all efficient.

Jacob Brennan played with his trademark dash, had 13 possessions and four marks, Blayne Wilson (11 possessions, four marks) and Adam Carter (eight possessions, two marks) each fulfilled their requirements in their specific roles.

In the end, the Royals won 22.8 (140) to 9.6 (60) in a clinical performance.

The reserves also had a solid 21-point win with three youngsters, headed by Malcolm Karpany, having an impact.

Karpany had 21 possessions and was an influential player who continues to build a case to play senior football, while both Rowen Powell and Tom Barrass were impressive as they develop in defence.
