Just heard the news! Our courageous captain Darren Glass has retired!

Darren Glass has been the captain of the Eagles for seven years. He has played 270 games, been named an All-Australian four times, once as captain! Glassy is a three-time Club Champ and has kicked eight goals in his AFL career.

But my friend Darren is also a fantastic person. He is always a favourite at our school visits and enjoys interacting with kids. We are all sad for him to finish playing, but he said himself, it’s the right time.

Getting back to the footy business for the week, we take on the Suns on Saturday!

You can’t mention the Gold Coast Suns without mentioning Gary Ablett. Ablett is the best player in the competition and is the key to the success of the Queensland side.

The boys will have a big task to try and shut him down, I think my mate Scott Selwood will get the job done! Josh Kennedy will be the captain of the Eagles tomorrow, but our Coach Adam Simpson says there won’t be a permanent captain until next year.

In other team news, youngster Jeremy McGovern is back and I’m really excited to see him play again. He’s a big guy and he works hard to get the footy. ‘Turbo’ also has a fair bit of flexibility, being able to play in the forwards and the backs.

So get out to Patersons, see Darren Glass walk his lap of honour at half time and cheer on the Eagles!

See you at three-quarter time!

Love Rick
