The West Coast Eagles will attempt to avoid surgery for gutsy midfielder Scott Selwood as they explore every available medical option to deal with an ankle injury.

It is possible that Selwood, who first injured the ankle in the round three victory against St Kilda, will have surgery, but it is hoped it can be avoided.

He has therefore been listed as “ongoing assessment” on the club’s medical update for the week.

Unfortunately, evolving utility player Elliot Yeo will not escape surgery on a broken hand.

He suffered that injury in the opening quarter against Gold Coast, battled on until subbed out in the third quarter and will miss up to seven weeks, with surgery scheduled for this week.

Classy midfielder Luke Shuey has been listed as a test after being a late withdrawal against Gold Coast, while Sam Butler, who dislocated a finger on Saturday, will also be a test before being declared available to play the Saints.
