The major redevelopment of the Lathlain Park precinct into a multi-use community sporting, recreational and leisure facility has reached another important milestone.

At a Special Meeting last night, The Town of Victoria Park council endorsed the community consultation period for consideration of the lease agreement between the Town and the West Coast Eagles.

Town of Victoria Park Mayor Cr Trevor Vaughan said that the Town and the West Coast Eagles had worked together to finalise the lease since early this year.

“We’ve worked closely with the West Coast Eagles to get to this significant milestone, bringing us another step closer to delivering a first class community sports, recreation and leisure precinct that will provide a wide diversity of benefits to our community.

“The social and economic value that the West Coast investment in the precinct will enable us to deliver will be broad and long lasting,” Mayor Cr Vaughan said.

Following the community consultation phase, the lease documents will be presented back to council with a final recommendation.

The signing of the lease between the Town and West Coast would be the next step in the redevelopment of the Lathlain Precinct.

The project’s seven zones include the development of community, sporting, recreation and leisure facilities for year round use, an upgrade to Perth Football Club facilities and the Eagles’ relocation to Lathlain Park.

Other zones include improved streetscapes, parklands and community infrastructure enhancements, as well as a new building for the local infant health, playgroup and toy library.

The joint partnership between the Town, West Coast Eagles and the Perth Football Club aims to set new standards in the delivery of an active community recreation precinct for the benefit of all residents.

As guided by the Local Government Act, information regarding the redevelopment and the call for community feedback will be advertised for a minimum of 14 days.

Key elements of the Lathlain Park redevelopment include:

• Creation of two ovals, one with a synthetic running track around the perimeter
• Education areas with dedicated areas for community development programs
• A new home for the West Coast Eagles, incorporating indoor and outdoor training facilities
• A community hub including café and child care facilities
• A new home for the Wirrpanda Foundation – which will deliver community outreach programs locally
• BBQ areas, community running tracks, and a playground
• Improved pedestrian access and parking
• The Town and West Coast Eagles partnering to deliver a program of community and social activities.
