Over 50 seniors  members were this week treated to an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the West Coast Eagles training facilities for the inaugural West Coast Eagles Seniors Activity Day.

The event marked the beginning of a new partnership between the Eagles and the Seniors Recreation Council of WA Inc., which will see the two joining forces to encourage healthy aging through activities and education.

The Hon. Tony Simpson MLA, Minister for Seniors and Volunteering attended the official launch, which was hosted by Eagles inaugural captain Ross Glendinning. West Coast Eagles chief executive Trevor Nisbett and the council's state president Hugh Rogers were also invited up to the podium to sign the new partnership agreement.

For chief executive Trevor Nisbett, the partnership marks an exciting time for the club, with hopes that the 2017 move to new facilities at Lathlain Park will allow the club to hold similar community events more frequently.

“At Lathlain, we will have larger and more flexible community spaces that will allow the senior community greater access to take part in preventative health and fitness activities, education sessions and inter-generational social events,” Nisbett said.

Following ceremony formalities, guests were invited to participate in a number of different physical activities, including Xbox Kinect, indoor bocce, indoor golf, seated hockey and quoits in the players’ warm-up room.

Sandover medallist and inaugural Eagle Phil Narkle and mascot Rick the Rock made an appearance, joining a number of senior members out on the oval to pose for photos and practise pole-walking.

Club memorabilia also provided a trip down memory lane for guests as they were given the opportunity to have a picture with the 1994 premiership cup to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the club’s second premiership victory.

Following the success of the inaugural event, the West Coast Eagles and Seniors Recreation Council of WA Inc. are looking forward to collaborating on future active health, fitness and social events for senior members.
