Senior coach Adam Simpson has bemoaned the trend of losing players almost weekly to injury, but having few of them working their way back through the rehabilitation process to be available.

That trend could change for the better this week.

Unfortunately emerging midfielder Mark Hutchings looks likely to fulfil the first part of the on-going equation and is probably going to miss this week’s clash with the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium.

But the flip side could be that midfielders Scott Selwood, Elliot Yeo and Xavier Ellis could be queueing up to fill the spot.

Selwood has not played since round 11 because of an ankle injury, Yeo has recovered from a broken hand suffered against Gold Coast in round 13 and Ellis is making strong progress from an AC joint problem from two weeks ago.

Each has been listed a test this week and will doubtless push hard for inclusion, given the enormity of the stakes for the club’s first game at Gold Coast’s home venue.

Ruckman Nic Naitanui, a late withdrawal against Melbourne on Saturday night because of Achilles soreness, is also expected to be fit to play.
