West Perth midfielder Aaron Black won the 2014 Sandover Medal last night after edging out Claremont’s Luke Blackwell and Falcons teammate Shane Nelson.

Black polled 47 votes to win by one vote, with Blackwell and Nelson each polling 46.

Black’s surprise win made him the first Falcon to claim the award since Neil Mildenhall in 1993.

As flagged yesterday by westcoasteagles.com.au, an Eagles-listed player winning the award was never a chance, but as predicted Callum Sinclair (24 votes) and Dom Sheed (15) were the best performers.

See below for a full list of Eagles-listed vote-getters:

Callum Sinclair – 24
Dom Sheed – 15
Pat McGinnity – 10
Scott Lycett – 8
Sam Butler – 6
Jeremey McGovern – 5
Adam Carter, Blayne Wilson – 4
Sharrod Wellingham – 3
Mark Hutchings – 2
Brad Sheppard, Ash Smith, Simon Tunbridge – 1
