Over the past six weeks, nine lucky senior West Coast Eagles members were given the opportunity to participate in a Tech-Savvy Seniors “Introduction to Technology” course as part of a new relationship between the West Coast Eagles and the Seniors Recreation Council of WA.

The course, designed to introduce seniors to the benefits of modern technology, is part of a dedicated partnership program to benefit the club’s senior supporters and the wider community by encouraging them to learn new skills.

Participants were taught how to use email, Facebook and Skype, as well as how to navigate the West Coast Eagles website and the basics of cyber-security by a qualified course leader from the SRCWA.

Attendee Iris White commended their course leader Martin Yates and said she would definitely recommend the course to her friends.

“Being a bit older, we’re a bit slow getting into it, but I have absolutely enjoyed it,” Ms White said.

Participants in this pilot program were also treated to an exclusive tour of the players’ facilities, including the warm-up room, gymnasium, players’ lounge and lecture theatre prior to attending their final tech session.

The club was able to offer this free course to members due to the equipment and support provided by the Seniors Recreation Council of WA, a predominately volunteer-run organisation that receives core funding support from the Department for Sport and Recreation and the Department for Local Government and Communities.

The West Coast Eagles would like to encourage supporters to visit the club’s stand at the Council’s ‘Have a Go Day’ held on November 12 at Burswood Park.

And don’t miss the Seniors Recreation Council’s Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 10 at Hamersley Community Hall from 1pm to 4pm. Tickets are $20 for a fun day of entertainment.
