It’s Christmas day for the football world and West Coast fans around the country are waiting to find out what gifts will be revealed when the recruiting team starts unwrapping tonight at the national draft.

The club’s scouts came together yesterday to finalise their selection order ahead of the meet tonight at the Gold Coast, playing out a number of scenarios to make sure they’re prepared for the big day.

WA recruiting manager Trevor Woodhouse talks draft strategy

With picks 11, 32, 51 and 66, West Coast has an abundance of talent to choose from and will be following the club’s policy of drafting the best player available at each selection.

Recruiting boss Rohan O’Brien said that most of the hard work has been done, but the team made positive headway at yesterday’s meeting.

“It was probably about reinforcing what we’ve already gone through before and just any last-minute scenarios that we think may get thrown into the equation, that we may or may not have gone over before, just to make sure we cover everything off and we’re not thinking on the run on the night,” O’Brien said.

“You hope things go as well as you could possibly hope for, but in terms of being prepared, we’re pretty comfortable there and pretty relaxed about it.

“You’d just like things to work out the way you’d want them to.”
