He and the football world may have already known it was coming, but at Wedesday’s rookie draft, Corey Adamson officially became a West Coast Eagle.

The former under-15 All Australian has been training with the club since August after crossing from the Australian Baseball League.

After a couple of months of training solo, Adamson says having the entire squad on the track with him for the pre-season campaign has helped solidify everything he has learned over the past weeks.

“Now the at all the boys are back, it feels like real footy,” Adamson said.

“I feel like I’m fitting in well and just getting as much guidance and coaching as I can right now.”

After six years of playing professional baseball, Adamson admits that the transition into football has taken some readjusting, but he says he is beginning to get used to the training and his body is starting to adapt too.

“Everything from the skills to the running is majorly different,” Adamson said.

“I came in at 92 kilos and I’m down to about 86 kilos with less fat, so the whole body shape has changed.”

With the new Eagle keen to impress his new club, Adamson says coach Adam Simpson has provided important support for him, setting realistic goals as he settles into his new career.

“He’s pretty much been telling me not to try and do too much,” Adamson said.

“I’m just really focusing on the basics and the skills right now, taking clean marks, getting good kicks before I worry about more advanced stuff.”
