The Federal Member for Swan, Steve Irons, made the most of a visit by the Federal Minister for Health and Sport, taking the Hon Sussan Ley to Lathlain Park today.

They visited the site of a proposed Lathlain Park Precinct development that would also house the West Coast Eagles.

Mr Irons and Minister Ley were hosted by Perth Football Club president Vince Pendal, the club that has called Lathlain Park home for 60 years.

West Coast Eagles Chief Executive Trevor Nisbett and General Manager Infrastructure and Technology Digby Moullin were also invited to discuss a project which will have far-reaching community benefits as well as providing a future base for the club.

“We were delighted to join Steve Irons, the Federal Minister for Sport and the Perth Football Club at Lathlain Park today,” said CEO Trevor Nisbett.

“The Minister was very interested in the redevelopment plans for the Precinct and we would like to thank Steve for organising the Minister's visit.”

The Town of Victoria Park has plans to transform the Lathlain Park Precinct and that will give the area a significant transformation.

Other key community benefits, should the Town of Victoria Park, get the necessary funding to progress the development include:

  • Substantial co-location building in Lathlain Place for community-based youth/health programs.
  • New multi-use community activity, education, sport, leisure and recreation facilities and maximisation of community access to the precinct.
  • Two publicly accessible multi-use AFL standard ovals, with a synthetic running track around one oval.
  • Precinct-wide major public open space improvements, accessibility upgrades and activation of the entire area through a range of capital works.
  • West Coast Eagles Shared Community Facilities including:
    • New Community Education Centre
    • Interactive Sport and Cultural Centre
    • Community Events & Functions Centre
    • New Home for the Wirrpanda Foundation.
    • Home for Eagles in the Community Programs.
    • West Coast Eagles Training and Administration Centre.
    • Specialist Rehabilitation Facilities for the SAS Resources Trust.
  • Perth Football Club to remain on-site, in their present location.
  • Improved movement network (roads, footpaths etc.) infrastructure.
  • Coordinated approach to vehicle parking across the precinct.
