The West Coast Eagles are involved in a wide variety of schools and communities programs across Western Australia, reaching students of all ages, abilities and locations.

One of the club’s most significant initiatives is the Kicking Goals program, where students in the Pilbara are visited by club players and staff.

Kicking Goals engages school students in Newman and Port Hedland to develop both as athletes and as individuals.

On Wednesday, Corey Adamson visited Hedland Senior High School, meeting students and junior football players in the Pilbara town.

Adamson ran a number of in-class clinics for the students ranging from years seven to twelve. The practical elements of each session focussed on clean hands, marking and goal-kicking.

Just as important as the football skills, Adamson also shared his story and personal journey with the students.

An Eagle with a unique background, Adamson signed his first professional sporting contract aged 16. However, it was with the San Diego Padres who urged the youngster to choose baseball and move to the United States.

The speedy outfielder was a Padres farmhand for the best of seven seasons, playing across the country in the U.S. minor league system.

Adamson returned to football after an impressive try-out for West Coast recruits in August 2014 and began the process of transforming his body from the power-based baseball frame to the strength and endurance physique of a modern AFL midfielder.

A seasoned professional at 22 years, Adamson stressed the importance of consistent work toward personal goals.

"When I signed my first professional contract, I was the same age as many of you are now,” Adamson said.

"I had to choose between baseball and footy, so I moved to the States."

Since his return to football, Adamson has applied himself to meet his goal of playing at Australia's top level.

"To play AFL footy, you've got to work each day.

"Not only with your training and learning, but with your nutrition, sleep and hydration, too."

Adamson concluded his day in Hedland at Kevin Scott Oval, signing autographs and taking photos with junior footy players at their weekly training session.

The West Coast Eagles Kicking Goals program is a joint initiative with Community Partner BHP Billiton and sees 12 West Coast Eagles players and staff visit communities in the Pilbara each year.

BHP Billiton is the proud Principal Community Partner of the West Coast Eagles, supporting the Eagles in the Community Program for the past 10 years.
