If you were at the West Coast Eagles’ open training session on Tuesday you may have noticed a young man running around with his Eagles heroes.

It would be any young Eagles fan’s dream to run onto Domain Stadium and train with the Eagles, but for Caelan Mack that dream became a reality yesterday, taking part in the Eagles 45-minute skills session.

Caelan is the 2015 Dig Deep mascot and was on hand for a photoshoot with The West Australian and Channel Seven when Adam Simpson asked him if he wanted to join the boys for training. He didn’t need to be asked twice.

Simpson walked Mack to the centre of Domain Stadium where he listened intently to Brady Rawlings address the midfield group, before the boys started running through some touch drills to warm up.

Mack did some handball work with Callum Sinclair and Will Maginness, before club great and now Ruck Coach Dean Cox joined them to continue through the skills session.

The session ended with some light running around the ground, where Mack ran alongside Eagles skipper Shannon Hurn, the young fan keeping the boys honest setting a ferocious pace out front.

Mack finished the day with an interview with Channel Seven, where he was joined by Luke Shuey.

“I’m just glad I’m training with an actual good team, unlike Fremantle,” Mack said.

Shuey, a Cancer Council WA ambassador, says Mack was great on the track.

“He was pretty handy out there,” Shuey said.

“His skills were great and he put a smile on everyone’s face when he was out there, it was great fun.

“He’s been through a lot already, so to be able to give him a thrill like this is wonderful.

“We’re really looking forward to Dig Deep Day this Sunday, the wristbands are on sale at Caltex Stores now and they will be on sale at the game and at our team store, they’re only $5 and every cent goes to the great cause.”
