While the focus this week has been on the likely return of key defender Will Schofield and the assessment of Chris Masten’s hamstring strain, a couple of other important players are making solid recoveries.

Ruckman Scott Lycett and midfielder Brant Colledge are making strong progress from knee injuries and could play in East Perth’s first semi-final clash with Peel Thunder on Sunday.

Understandably the spotlight has fallen on Schofield and Masten this week with both men having a significant impact in a season where the Eagles finished the qualifying rounds in second position.

Schofield will need only to get through training this week to reclaim a position in defence while Masten will be given every chance to play after suffering a low-grade strain against St Kilda last week.

Masten, a running machine, will be assessed throughout the next few days as he makes a bold bid to be considered. He would need to convince the medical staff as well as the coaching staff and neither would consent to an unnecessary risk.

Lycett has not played since an outstanding fortnight against Hawthorn and Fremantle when he damaged his knee, but has made significant progress in the last week while Colledge has had bruising to his knee which has sidelined him in the last two weeks, but is looking to resume for the Royals.
