Inspirational AFL figure Neale Daniher might have returned to Melbourne earlier this year, but he remains firmly in the hearts of the West Coast Eagles family.

Daniher, diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease a couple of years ago, has been a marvel as he has directed his energy towards raising awareness – and badly needed funds – to aid the quest to find a cure.

And on Saturday, before the second preliminary final at Domain Stadium between West Coast and North Melbourne, fans will be able to contribute to the cause as club volunteers  conduct a tin rattle around the stadium.

Those funds will be used to support Western Australians who have been afflicted with the disease, providing essential on-going medical care.

MND WA will also promote Daniher’s Drive for MND, an event that will run across the weekend of October 16-18, starting at East Fremantle Oval, heading to Northam and another mystery destination, before culminating at Steel Blue Oval.

The West Coast Eagles will have a car in the event, thanks to the support of long-time partner Toyota, and it promises to be fun as well as continuing to push the cause to support sufferers in this State.

There will be a booth in Fan Zone, outside Gate 8 at Domain Stadium on the night, providing information about Daniher’s Drive, while a posse of West Coast Eagles staff  will be visible raising funds for this cause that has touched us personally.

After being diagnosed with MND in August 2013, Daniher has put great energy and drive into awareness and raising funds in the bid to help find a cure for the insidious disease.

He raised about $2million directly towards aiding the quest for a cure through his ‘Freeze at the G’ promotion a couple of months ago, he is also lending his name to this event.

While Daniher cannot be here personally for the WA Drive, he will be involved in a similar event in Victoria. But he’s hoping the WA community, which has been so supportive of fundraising efforts, will continue to get behind the cause because those who have been diagnosed required on-going care and support.

The round trip from Perth will include Northam and the picturesque Avon Valley while there will also be a “mystery” destination thrown in.

Vacancies remain for what looms as a fun event with the actual route remaining a secret as there will also be some surprise activities along the way.
