West Coast Eagles Player of the Finals Brad Sheppard says the group is more driven than ever to taste team success after going down to Hawthorn in the premiership decider last weekend.

“You don’t play footy for individual awards, but it is an honour to win this award and I’m humbled,” Sheppard said.

“We did come a long way in 2015, unfortunately Hawthorn were too good last week, but we feel like we’re still young and building.

“We all can’t wait to get back into it and try and earn another shot.”

Sheppard was full of praise for coach Adam Simpson and his coaching staff on stage last night saying the new coaches instilled belief in him that has allowed him to find his best football.

“Simmo what you’ve done over the last couple of years for me, and the players, I can’t thank you enough,” he said.

“You’ve given me the belief and the confidence that I needed.

“To Adrian Hickmott, our backline coach, first year and a half when he took over he rode me pretty hard.

“I got frustrated at times, but looking back at it it’s what I needed so thank you for that, and I look forward to what we can achieve.

“To my mentor Daniel Pratt it’s been great, your addition, to be able to lean on you and not just talk about football but life in general I’m really grateful.

“To all the other coaching staff, I’ve had a bit to do with all of you, so I’d like to thank everybody.”
