More than 400 young West Coast Eagles fans descended on the State Netball Centre to participate in the Rick’s Rookies draft combine on Tuesday.

The enthusiastic 5-12 year olds were greeted at the centre by West Coast recruiting operations manager Brad Smith, who explained the process of the AFL draft combine and demonstrated some of the day’s combine drills with the help of Rick the Rock.

Rick delayed the start of the combine to challenge a few enthusiastic Eagles’ fans to a game of Pictionary.

Contestants ummed and ahhed as Rick scribbled his best caricatures of West Coast’s most notable players, including Nic Naitanui, Josh Kennedy and Matthew Priddis, and the most intuitive youngsters took home a ball signed by the 2016 squad and West Coast senior coach Adam Simpson.

The draft hopefuls broke off into their groups and got their bodies prepared for the rigours of the combine with an in-depth warm-up and stretching session.

The rookies then launched themselves into a circuit designed to test their athleticism and football skills.

The circuit, which was monitored by the club's one-to-six year players, included a vertical jump, planking, 20m sprint, agility, kicking and handball accuracy and evasive skills station.

The enthusiastic group capped off the day by hopping into a HBF Health-sponsored photo booth to take some happy snaps.

At the completion of the combine one lucky rookie also won a 2016 West Coast Eagles squad and coach-signed guernsey.

The club would like to thank all Rick’s Rookie members who attended and hope to see them all again at Rick’s Birthday Party at Bounce on Friday, December 9.
