With the West Coast Eagles in their 30^th season in the AFL, our round 15 Member of the Round, Scott Lilleyman, has been an Eagles fan since well before we played our first match.

As a year 12 student at Aquinas College in 1986, Scott paid keen interest to a group of footballers training on his school’s oval, and it was this same group of footballers who would run onto Subiaco Oval in early 1987, bringing in a new era for Australian football.

“I was there the day the West Coast Eagles ran out onto Subiaco oval to play against Richmond in the VFL,” Scott recalled.

“I remember my dad commenting about the Tigers cheer squad walking around the boundary dressed in duffle coats on a warm autumn day.”

Scott still holds on to the ticket from our first match, and has been present for some of our highest highs, and lowest lows.

“I was at Windy Hill the day the Eagles only scored one goal against Essendon (in 1989),” he said.

When thinking back over his 30 years of support and dedication to the club, one day still stands out as his absolute favourite.

“I was at the MCG to see the Eagles win their first flag in 1992. The day will always be my most special memory of the West Coast Eagles as I sat in the stands of the MCG with my parents and my brother,” Scott said.

“I remember watching the players run around the boundary knowing they had achieved the ultimate and thinking how lucky I was to be there.”

While the players have changed since our early days in the league, Scott’s support for whoever is wearing an Eagles jumper hasn’t wavered.

Like other Eagles fans though, Scott’s only gripe is the shortness of the footy season.

“I always believed there was only two seasons, the footy season and the ‘waiting for the footy’ season,” Scott said.

As our round 15 Member of the Round, Scott was on the ground along with our 2006 premiership team, as our current side burst through the banner to take on Essendon.

We’re confident that Scott has added another great experience to over 30 years of memories as a West Coast Eagles fan.
