Two West Coast Eagles legends intend to take Albany by storm in a bid to raise vital funds for a good cause this weekend.

Dean Cox and Glen Jakovich will host a corporate dinner and memorabilia auction at the Motel Le Grande before hitting the links at the famed Albany Golf Course to help fundraise for the Albany Community Hospice.

The hospice’s mission is to provide expert palliative care in a home-like environment to residents of the Great Southern suffering from serious, incurable illnesses.

Jakovich, who has hosted the hospice fundraisers on six previous occasions, told the Albany Advertiser he couldn’t wait to participate in the fun weekend.

“We go out to the hospice in the afternoon to visit all the nurses and volunteers out there,” Jakovich said.

“There is a surreal moment when we meet some of the patients there. It’s an eye-opener and a real leveller and makes you appreciate that you have a healthy life.”

Albany Community Hospice board chairwoman Jane Mouritz told the local newspaper the charity weekend provided a large chunk of the hospice’s annual funding.

“We have an ongoing need for operational funds; every year we need those funds,” Mouritz said.

“We aim to raise quite a substantial sum at this event. It’s one of our main annual fundraisers.”

The corporate dinner and memorabilia auction commences at 6.30pm on Saturday and the charity golf event starts at 9am on Sunday.
