East Perth senior coach Luke Webster believes experienced Eagles Sam Butler and Lewis Jetta are ready for an AFL recall if required following impressive displays for the Royals at the weekend.

Jetta, who was only ruled out of AFL selection contention last week due to a glute strain, collected 19 disposals, took eight marks, stuck five effective tackles and distributed the ball at 84% efficiency, while Butler got his hands on the ball 26 times, reeled in 10 marks and used the ball effectively 81% of the time.

Webster said the pair’s pin-point ball use gave East Perth plenty of scoring opportunities against Swan Districts at Leederville Oval.

“Jetts got through all fine, which was really good,” Webster said.

“He got involved in the game and had a really good attitude as well. He’s obviously trying to improve himself as a footballer and really help our side out. I thought a couple of his plays really opened the game up for us and gave us some looks at scoring opportunities.

“Buttsy is a good quality leader, whichever level he plays at. It’s great to have an experienced guy like Sam in the team.

“He’s using the ball really well and he’s defending really well. He’s providing some really good attacking options for us, but also, as I mentioned before, his defensive efforts and not getting beaten in his one-on-one contests has been really good for us.”

Webster was also rapt with developing half back Francis Watson’s showing against the Swans.

Watson amassed a game-high 32 possessions (13 contested), clunked seven marks and laid seven effective tackles.

He also went the extra yard to execute one classy smother and two spoils.

“Frankie is playing some really good footy,” Webster said.

“He’s obviously finding a fair bit of the footy; I think he had (32) touches on the weekend.

“It’s been his contest work and his ability to be able to defend which has been very, very good. He had a really well rounded game, found a heap of the footy and he’s giving us a heap of run off half back. Hopefully his form continues. He’s performing really well for us.”
