Emergencies at the ready if required

AFL 2016 Rd 22 - West Coast v Hawthorn

Jack Darling booted three goals from 12 disposals against the Hawks in round 22 last year

After much deliberation, West Coast has opted to make just one change ahead of its round five fixture against Hawthorn at the MCG.

It was a case of a good ankle in and a bad ankle out this week when West Coast’s match committee recalled Jack Darling to replace Sam Mitchell.

Darling rolled his ankle during the Eagles’ round three defeat to Richmond and medical staff elected to err on the side of caution and rest him for the club’s clash with Sydney.

The 24-year-old’s return will be well received given he has performed well against the Hawks in recent battles.

Darling booted three goals the last time the teams met and helped West Coast secure the second of its three-straight wins at the back end of the 2016 home-and-away season.

Senior coach Adam Simpson said he will wait and see how Darling pulls up after tomorrow’s captain’s run before settling on the team’s final make-up.

For that reason, the club has listed three emergencies – Dom Sheed, Mark Hutchings and Malcolm Karpany – for the match.
