Domain Stadium was abuzz with excitement last Sunday as the West Coast Eagles prepared to take on Greater Western Sydney for Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round.

The Captain’s Club in the Bill Walker Room was the place to be as members enjoyed their second sit-down luncheon for season 2017.

Co-hosts Karl Langdon and Tiny Holly hit the ground running following on from their collaboration at Friday evening’s Eagles in the Community Gala Auction. The duo had the room in stitches within minutes of the function beginning.

Karl welcomed the first guest for the day, legendary Indigenous Eagles player Phil Matera, who discussed what Indigenous Round meant to the players and how great it had been to see clubs and the AFL working together to ensure the annual celebration grows each year.

Next on stage was West Coast Eagles director Paul Fitzpatrick, who educated the room on the club’s community programs and the plans to build such endeavours at the club’s budding Lathlain facilities.

Mains were served and the raffle was drawn shortly after Fitzpatrick’s address. The lucky raffle winner took home a 2017 team signed Guernsey; with second place winning a team-signed Sherrin and third place a signed flag.

One special guest made a special appearance before the function came to a close – a face members would much rather see out on the field but were more than happy to welcome into Captain’s Club – Nic Naitanui.

Tiny spoke to Naitanui about his rehabilitation program and how he was coping with time away from football. He also addressed the club’s current injury situation and spoke about how it provided opportunities for younger, emerging players.

After a few questions from the room, members headed towards their seats in time for bounce down.

The third and final Captain’s Club luncheon of the year is scheduled for Sunday, July 30. For more information, or to purchase tickets please contact the Membership Services Centre on (08) 9388 4566 or membership@westcoasteagles.com.au
