East Perth’s five-game winning streak has ended following a second half fade out against WAFL pacesetters Subiaco, who stormed to a convincing 32-point win at Leederville Oval on Saturday.

The Royals burst out of the blocks and majors to Tom Lamb and Josh Hill, as well as a stunning 12 touches to veteran midfielder Chris Masten, gifted the Royals a 12-point lead following the first quarter.

East Perth maintained its two-goal advantage at the main break, as tough, contested footy reigned supreme across the ground.

However, the second half was a different story as Subiaco dominated play. Creative small forward Liam Ryan led the Lions’ charge, booting three of the home side’s five unanswered third quarter goals.

Majors to Jordan Snadden and Malcolm Karpany in the fourth term cut the Lions’ lead to seven points late in the final quarter, but the 2015 premiers regained their mojo and ran away with a comfortable 14.14 (98) to 10.6 (66) win.

Despite the loss, East Perth’s tall timber dominated at the centre bounce and stoppages, winning the hit outs 55-24 on the back of 36 effective taps from Jon Giles and 10 from returning ruckman Scott Lycett.

Lycett also clunked two strong marks and gathered 12 disposals in his restricted minutes outing, while Fraser McInnes gathered 14 disposals and worked tirelessly throughout the contest.

Jack Redden was the best of the Royals midfielders, tallying 27 disposals, nine tackles and two inside-50s. Masten finished the afternoon with 28 touches and directed traffic alongside former Eagle and current Royals’ co-captain, Pat McGinnity.

Hill finished his day with two goals, while Karpany was again dangerous with 18 disposals, nine marks, three tackles and a major to his name.

Sharrod Wellingham, returning from an ankle injury on restricted minutes, had an impactful game across halfback with 15 disposals and seven tackles.

Rookie Jordan Snadden had his most complete performance for the season, amassing 15 touches, five marks, three tackles, two inside-50s along with his fourth term goal and on-baller Luke Partington contributed meaningfully with 18 disposals, two inside-50s and a goal.

Sam Butler, Josh Rotham and Tom Lamb each had 11 touches, while Tom Gorter and Kurt Mutimer had 10 and 12 touches respectively.

In the reserves, Francis Watson got through his 70 minutes on the park unscathed, while Tarir Bayok played less than a half of football due to hamstring tightness.
