West Coast Eagles midfielders Luke Shuey and Andrew Gaff went undercover at Caltex Leederville to launch the 13th instalment of the club’s Dig Deep campaign this week.

Shuey and Gaff, both Cancer Council WA ambassadors, caught customers at Caltex Leederville by surprise when they approached them in Caltex uniforms and offered to fill up their car or clean their windows.

The pair turned heads alongside West Coast Eagles mascot Rick the Rock and Cancer Council WA’s Daffodil mascot, who helped Caltex staff around the store.

Gaff and Shuey also promoted this year’s Dig Deep fundraising item, which will be on sale during the six-week Dig Deep campaign leading into the club’s Dig Deep match versus Carlton at Domain Stadium on August 12.

This year’s sale item is a mini football, priced at $5, which will be available for purchase at Caltex stores, the West Coast Eagles Team Store, the Cancer Council WA shop and around Domain Stadium on match day.

All proceeds from sales will go to Cancer Council WA.

Shuey encouraged all footy fans to donate to the Dig Deep cause.

“It’s great to be down here to launch the 13th Dig Deep campaign,” Shuey said.

“We’ve raised almost $1.3 million in total over the years. It’s been a super effort, but there’s plenty more work to do.

“I’m confident that all our members and fans will get behind this campaign. Our Round 21 clash against Carlton is our Dig Deep match, and I encourage all of our members and fans to get down there and support this wonderful cause. Any football fans are welcome. You’ll be supporting more than just us and Carlton on the day. It’s a great cause and it’s been successful in the last 12 years.”

With the help of the WA community, the West Coast Eagles hopes to raise another $100,000 for Cancer Council WA during this year’s Dig Deep campaign to support the 12,000 Western Australians diagnosed with cancer every year.
