AFL 2017 Round 04 - West Coast v Sydney

Matt Priddis has been recalled to face Carlton at Domain Stadium on Saturday night

Brownlow medallist and favourite son Matt Priddis will resume his AFL career against Carlton on Saturday, a fortnight after announcing he would retire at season’s end.

After missing the victory against Brisbane two weeks ago, he travelled as the emergency last week but is now poised to play his 236th game.

The popular midfielder, virtually a permanent top 10 fixture in the Club Champion voting for the past decade, is one of three changes the match committee made on the back of an eight-point loss to the Saints.

The return of Priddis comes as no surprise, with coach Adam Simpson declaring immediately after the Saints game that the inside bull would play this week.

Also resuming are ruckman Nathan Vardy and winger Lewis Jetta, while defender Will Schofield, forward Malcolm Karpany and midfielder Chris Masten have all made way.

Vardy also missed the Brisbane and St Kilda games - the first of them because of a strained glute and the second because the match committee opted for a quicker team to match the Saints.

The Jetta story is similar to that of Priddis and Vardy, but he missed consecutive games with a calf strain.

Sharrod Wellingham - who was outstanding through the midfield for East Perth last Saturday - young defender Tom Cole and half-forward Josh Hill have been named as the team's emergencies.

The Eagles need to win this game against the Blues to stay in the finals hunt.

They will close out the qualifying rounds with games against GWS in Sydney and then Adelaide at home.
