GWS ruckman Shane Mumford has been ruled out for the rest of the year with a foot fracture

Greater Western Sydney's premiership hopes have taken another massive blow with ruckman Shane Mumford ruled out for the rest of the year with a foot fracture.

It comes on the back of news star forward Jeremy Cameron won't play again in 2017 after suffering a left hamstring tendon injury.

Mumford, 31, was convincingly beaten by Sam Jacobs as the Giants were on the end of a 36-point loss to Adelaide in last Thursday's qualifying final at Adelaide Oval.

"Shane reported some soreness in his foot the day after the game and upon further investigation it was revealed he'd suffered a fracture," GWS head of athletic performance David Joyce told

"Having consulted a specialist on Monday, the decision has been made to rule him out for the rest of the season.

"This is disappointing news for Shane but he'll no doubt put this aside to help his teammates prepare the best they can."

He finished with three disposals and 38 hit-outs against the Crows.

Dawson Simpson looms as the obvious replacement for Mumford. The former Cat lined up in two senior games late in the home and away season and uses his 210cm frame to dominate in the NEAFL.
