Matt Priddis capped of a sterling career in style this year

Matt Priddis gave his heart and soul to the West Coast Eagles throughout his career and his final season was no different. His hard work at the coalface was ever present and he willed his team over the line on several occasions. His decision to retire for the good of the club was also testament to his team-first approach. He was a champion until the end.

Priddis averaged more than 24 disposals, seven tackles, five clearances and 12 contested possessions per game in his final season.

2017 season highlights:

Disposals: 33 vs Port Adelaide Elimination Final

Handballs: 25 vs Fremantle – Round 6

Tackles: 12 vs Collingwood – Round 18

AFL Fantasy: 138 vs Port Adelaide Elimination Final

Memorable matches:

Round 22 v Greater Western Sydney

Heading to Spotless Stadium with a point to prove, the Eagles started well – as did their bustling inside bull Matt Priddis. He was feeding the Eagles’ outside runners from the get-go, while also applying constant pressure to the Giants at stoppages. Although West Coast faltered late in the game, Priddis was arguably the visitors’ best with 31 disposals, five marks, seven tackles and two goals.

Elimination final v Port Adelaide

The Eagles hit the Adelaide Oval refreshed and confident. Priddis has always relished finals football; the combative nature of the games suits him down to the ground, and this game would be no exception. Reminiscent of his Brownlow Medal-winning form of 2014, Priddis turned back the clock and delivered a vintage performance. In one of the most thrilling games in Eagles history, Priddis was prolific with 33 disposals, five marks, 10 tackles and a clutch goal.

Semi-final v Greater Western Sydney

The Eagles ultimately ran out of gas against the Giants in the semi-final, but in what was his final AFL game, Priddis finished with a performance he’d be proud of with 30 disposals and seven tackles.
