Andrew Gaff had another stellar campaign in season 2017. One of the league’s best outside runners, the 25-year-old led the competition for total and average uncontested possessions per game and ranked third in total kicks this year.

West Coast would have loved seeing the ball in Gaff’s hands so often given he disposed the Sherrin with career-best efficiency this year. The 2015 John Worsfold medallist hit his desired target 74.2 per cent of the time, averaging 22 effective disposals per match.

Memorable matches:

Round 3 v Richmond

Gaff burst out of the blocks with an outstanding season-opening performance against North Melbourne, but he was exceptional on a trying day at the MCG opposing the eventual 2017 premiers. The tireless midfielder amassed 33 disposals, 17 contested possessions, nine intercepts, seven clearances and six rebound 50s. It wasn’t enough to get the Eagles over the line on a miserable Melbourne day, but it was a sign of things to come for the 2015 John Worsfold medallist.

Round 15 v Western Bulldogs

Gaff was absolutely everywhere against the reigning premiers at Etihad Stadium. He started the game by hitting a fast-leading Malcolm Karpany with a perfectly-weighted inside 50 entry to set up West Coast’s third goal before going on a tear in the midfield. The 25-year-old ran rings around the Bulldogs en route to amassing a staggering 42 disposals, 11 score involvements, 10 inside 50s, seven intercept possessions and five marks.

Elimination Final v Port Adelaide

Gaff was immense against Port Adelaide in the most gripping final of season 2017. The game’s most prolific uncontested possession winner ran himself off his feet in an effort to get the Eagles into a semi-final clash with the Giants. He led all comers in the metres-gained department at three quarter time (356m) and set up West Coast’s last goal in regular time when he collected a loose ball near the boundary and centred it to a high-flying Drew Petrie, who slotted his set shot from 25m out to put the visiting Eagles two point clear of the Power. Gaff finished the game with 34 touches, eight marks, six inside 50s, six score involvements and five rebound 50s.
