Jackson Nelson is looking to cement his place in the Eagles' side in 2018

West Coast Eagles defender Jackson Nelson says the Eagles were blown away by their visit to Optus stadium and they’re already looking forward to running out for a training session at their new home in the coming weeks.

Nothing is locked in at this point, but the Eagles will hope to train at their home ground ahead of their AFLX and JLT Community Series campaign in mid-February.

“It’s unbelievable, the big screens there are huge, there’s two behind the goals that are unbelievable,” Nelson told Sport FM.

“The rooms are just top-class, we get to train on it in a few weeks, we’re pretty excited to get on there.”

Nelson played 13 games in 2018 with injury interrupting much of his campaign, the tough defender is keen to cement a spot in the Eagles’ best-22 but knows the backline is stacked with talent.

“I obviously had a couple of injuries last season; hopefully this season going in my body is more prepared with the pre-season under my belt,” Nelson said.

“Hopefully (I can) play 22 games of AFL footy.

“Our backline group is pretty experienced, but it’s awesome that we’ve got heaps of young guys coming in.

“We drafted a fair few young boys, it’s awesome to have them coming in, it’s going to be a different looking side this year, I reckon.”
