Given the weight of football won by Fremantle it would be a stretch to suggest that an Eagle could be best afield, but key defender Jeremy McGovern was clearly his team’s best.

He had 18 possessions and four marks from his defensive post and while he has recorded better numbers than that during his senior career, he was a standout for West Coast – particularly in the first half when his team was under intense pressure.

McGovern produced a couple of his trademark intercept grabs, but also brought the ball to ground on occasions and allowed the Eagles to run the ball out.

He is working nicely in tandem with Tom Barrass who, after a slow first quarter, worked into the game and took eight marks. Together with Tom Cole, Lewis Jetta and Liam Duggan, they got plenty of the footy but would have preferred to have had a few less opportunities to get involved.

Fremantle dominated the inside 50 count, which meant the defenders were around the footy more than they would have liked.
