The West Coast Eagles has joined forces with premier partner AGL and Foodbank WA to take on hunger in the WA community.

Eagles running-machine Andrew Gaff will clock up Metres for Meals at home games for the rest of 2018 with AGL to donate 500 meals to Foodbank WA for every kilometre run by the prolific Eagle.

West Coast Eagles General Manager of Community & Game Development Richard O’Connell said Metres for Meals further strengthened the already strong relationships between the West Coast Eagles, Foodbank WA and AGL.

“The long standing partnership between West Coast Eagles, our members and Foodbank has supported hundreds of WA families, we are extremely excited to further this helping hand through the generosity of our premier partner in AGL,” O’Connell said.

“The demand is higher than ever to satisfy hunger relief in the community so we urge West Australians to get behind Foodbank WA.”

AGL Head of Western Australia Natalie Edwards said they were proud to join forces with the West Coast Eagles and Foodbank WA.

“We are aiming to donate up to 50,000 meals this year based on the fact that Andrew covers an average of 13 km in each game, which is more than any other Eagles player,” Ms Edwards said.

“Working with Western Australia’s leading hunger relief charity is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to supporting the communities in which we operate.

“It also extends our premier partnership established last year with the West Coast Eagles which includes our sponsorship of the players’ shorts and our partnership in the AGL Aboriginal Leadership Program.”

“As a new entrant to the market we were impressed by the fact that Foodbank has been fighting hunger in Western Australia for more than two decades, providing more than 5.7 million meals each year to people who are struggling to afford a meal for themselves and their children.”

Foodbank CEO Greg Hebble said they were grateful for the support and were thrilled with the Metres for Meals initiative.

“We are very grateful for the continued support that we receive from the West Coast Eagles, its members and players, and we are thrilled to be working with the club’s Premier Partner AGL to provide additional food to families in need throughout the state,” he said.

“This really will make a positive impact on those who have nowhere else to turn for a meal.”
