The West Coast Eagles recently ventured to Western Australia’s far north to deliver some of the club’s award-winning community programs to a host of regional fans.

Premiership-winning Eagle Sam Butler joined game development coordinator Kim Hannah and schools and community officer Bradd Dalziell on the northern expedition, which included visits to several schools, Auskick coaching sessions and after-school football clinics.

The terrific trio delivered the club’s popular Eagles Insight presentation – which provides physical education students a look into the training requirements of an AFL player, plus nutritional information and injury management and prevention tips – to pupils from Karratha Senior High School and St Luke’s College.

Students from Karratha’s Clontarf College were treated to a separate Q&A session followed by an advanced training session.

Further north, members of the Kicking Goals program from Hedland Senior High School and Newman Senior High School honed their football skills under the watchful eye of West Coast and V Swans staff.

Some of the schools’ more talented footballers also participated in a Strength 2 Succeed and Naitanui Academy clinic, which focused on advanced drills and game play scenarios, while more than 150 children and 100 parents attended a separate Auskick training session run by the blue and gold staffers.

Butler, Hannah and Dalziell also made a special effort to invite several female footballers, coaches and community leaders from Nullagine Remote Community School to an after school coaching session in Newman.

This trip concluded a big month for the Naitanui Academy in the regions.

In addition to the Pilbara visit, coaching and training sessions were conducted in the Midlands (Watheroo) and South West (Busselton) to underline West Coast’s commitment to its regional base.

Delivery of the club’s education and academy programs would not be possible without the ongoing support of principal community partner BHP.
