AGL presents giant cheque to Foodbank WA

AGL’s Head of WA Natalie Edwards hands over a giant cheque to Foodbank WA CEO Greg Hebble

AGL’s Head of WA Natalie Edwards recently presented Foodbank WA CEO Greg Hebble with a giant cheque for $28,640 to help tackle the growing issue of hunger in Western Australia.

The generous donation is a result of two fantastic fundraising initiatives run by AGL this year – The AGL Metres for Meals campaign, which saw 500 meals donated for every kilometre West Coast Eagles running machine Andrew Gaff covered during an AFL home game and AGL’s AFL Grand Final  Ticket Raffle, which gave two lucky AGL staff members two tickets to see the Eagles take home the Premiership Cup.

AGL Metres for Meals was launched in Round 9, with Eagles midfielder Andrew Gaff becoming the face of the campaign. Thanks to Andrew’s running power, AGL easily achieved its season target of 50,000 meals for Foodbank WA.

When AFL finals fever hit, AGL again celebrated its West Coast Eagles partnership by giving staff the chance to win two double passes to the AFL Grand Final with the proceeds being donated to Foodbank WA, resulting in an additional 7,280 meals.

Thanks to the generosity of AGL, Foodbank WA will be able to purchase key staple foods that are in demand all year around, yet very rarely donated - such as rice, pasta, canned soup, vegetables, beans, pasta sauce which form the basis of a nutritious meal.

Last financial year, Foodbank WA provided over 6.1 million meals to people in need throughout the state. While the bulk of the food was donated by the food and grocery industries, the not-for-profit hunger relief organisation also relies on corporate partners such as AGL and West Coast Eagles to purchase enough food to help meet the growing need and ensure that no one is turned away empty handed.

Foodbank WA has proudly partnered with the West Coast Eagles for six years and is very proud that West Coast Eagles Premier Partner AGL has joined the fight against hunger this year. AGL’s donation will make a huge difference to the lives of West Australians who are struggling to afford a meal.
