West Coast Eagles midfielder Jack Redden took one step closer to an Eagles debut after a solid performance for East Perth at the weekend.

Redden, who was on limited match time in a return from a hernia operation, gathered 20 disposals, five tackles and kicked a goal in the Royals’ 76-point thumping at the hands of Claremont.

The 25 year-old told The Sunday Times he was edging closer to full fitness.

“The body felt really good,” Redden told The Sunday Times.

“I thought I was covering the ground a bit better this week, so the match fitness is getting there.

“It’s just about getting the kilometres into the legs. I’ve played 70 and now 90 minutes, so hopefully I can play a full game next.”

Redden was realistic when asked if he had his sights on lining up on Easter Sunday against his old side in Brisbane.

“There’s a long time between now and then,” he said.

“My performance wasn’t overly great today, but I’m just happy to put my hand up.

“The body pulled up alright, so I feel I’m on top of (the injury) now.
